CROATIA & MONTENEGRO: Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Kotor

Zagreb. Croatia's capital was peaceful and orderly, being set up to watch the EuroCup games that Croatia was doing well in. I stayed at a cheap hostel and hung out with lots of British backpackers.

Ah, Eastern Europe...

Mullet!

Dubrovnik. The next day İ took a bus down part of the stunning Croatian coast to Dubrovnik, which is a very well preserved, carless old town set amongst beaches and islands. The place was basically like a beachier Venice without canals. Although it was packed to the brim withtourists, it was still pretty awesome, especially the two mile walkover the 60ft high city walls which were most recently used to defendthe city and its inhabitants from a Serbian siege in the 1990s.

Montenegro. From there İ headed to Montenegro, a small, poor country below Croatiathat basically lives off tourism. Last year it became the world'snewest country when it broke away from Serbia but it lost thatdistinction this spring when Kosovo up and did the exact same thing. İstayed in Kotor which is basically a smaller version of Dubrovnik setin Southern Europe's biggest coastal fjord. İt was like a Norwegiantown with tiled roofs and a steep city fortress that took an hour longhike to reach.
